You may purchase residential, commercial, industrial and agricultural properties in Malaysia.

The Foreign Investment Committee guideline states that a foreigner is not allowed to purchase residential properties below RM500,000.00 from 1 January 2010. Other types of properties must be at least RM500,000.00. You also cannot purchase (i) low or low-medium cost residential properties, (ii) properties built on Malay reserve land, and (iii) properties allocated to Bumiputera interests.
The minimum purchase price set by a few states differs from the abovementioned. Please confirm with your solicitor before you make a commitment on any property.

You are required under Section 433B of the National Land Code to obtain the respective state government's approval for your purchase.

Q4. What are the individual documents of title and strata title?
A landed property is issued an individual document of title for the land on which the property is erected. You will receive the title a short period after completion of your purchase.
A sub-divided building is issued a strata title for the particular unit on the particular floor of the building. Such properties are governed under the Strata Title Act 1985. A strata title may take years to be issued. Prior to its issuance, the property is transferred by way of assignment to you.
